Hampstead Garden
Garden Design

Brief
The garden was extremely shady and the existing patio and retaining wall had been damaged by the roots of a cherry tree planted very close to the house. The client wanted a bigger patio area and a garden pod to sit in to give her privacy from the overlooking flats. The entire garden needed new planting.

Solution
We applied to Camden Council to take out the cherry tree and for planning permission for the garden pod. This garden is in a conservation area. The design divided the garden into three sections and placed the pod in a gravel area in the middle so different parts of the garden could be seen from it.  A new, more extensive patio with wider steps were built using Indian sandstone, and the retaining wall was clad with matching stone. Taking out the cherry tree has increased the light levels in the garden which allows for a wider range of plants.  The planting scheme uses a lot of plants with ball shapes to match the shape of the pod.
